Role Description
Billy J is one of Australia’s leading online fashion retailers, delivering thousands of new styles each year to customers across Australia and internationally. What began on the Sunshine Coast has grown into a recognised ecommerce brand with a team of more than 160 people and ambitious plans for continued global expansion.
We’re looking for an experienced Buyer to take ownership of a significant product category and drive its commercial performance. This role combines strategic buying, trading, supplier management and inventory optimisation, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, data-driven retail environment. You’ll have genuine ownership of your category, influence future product development and work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver commercial outcomes.

About You
You’ll be an experienced fashion buyer who combines commercial thinking with a genuine passion for product.
You’ll ideally have
- 3-5+ years’ experience as a Fashion Buyer within a fast-paced ecommerce or retail business.
- Strong commercial acumen with proven experience managing sales, gross margin and inventory performance.
- Excellent analytical skills and confidence making data-led trading decisions.
- Experience negotiating directly with suppliers and managing commercial relationships.
- A thorough understanding of buying systems such as Shopify, Style Arcade, Inventory Planner or similar platforms.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications are advantageous but not essential.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial trading
- Take full ownership of the daily trading performance of your category.
- Analyse sales, gross margin, conversion, sell-through, stock cover and profitability to maximise commercial outcomes.
- Identify risks and opportunities early and implement trading actions accordingly.
Buying & range strategy
- Develop commercially balanced ranges that align with customer demand, market trends and business objectives.
- Lead seasonal assortment planning, product selection, sample approvals and range architecture.
- Monitor competitor activity and emerging trends to ensure Billy J remains a market leader.
Supplier Management
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
- Lead commercial negotiations including pricing, payment terms, lead times and cost management.
- Partner with suppliers to improve product quality and delivery performance.
Inventory Management
- Manage stock investment across your category.
- Make informed decisions regarding replenishment, allocations, markdowns and exit strategies.
- Optimise stock turn while maintaining availability and profitability.
Reporting & Collaboration
- Prepare regular trading reports and present actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Work closely with Planning, Marketing, Ecommerce and Product Development to ensure successful product launches and campaigns.
- Ensure purchase orders, approvals and critical path milestones are delivered accurately and on time.
