Role Description
This is a broad, hands-on commercial leadership role with responsibility for the performance and development of the GAP brand across the Australian market. You will take ownership across brand strategy, product, wholesale, buying, planning, key accounts, marketing and financial performance, working closely with internal teams, major retail partners and GAP’s international team. A key priority will be the continued development and growth of the Myer business, ensuring the right product, assortment, distribution and commercial strategy to maximise the opportunity for GAP within one of Australia’s largest department store groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute short and long-term brand strategies aligned with GAP’s global objectives and the opportunities within the Australian market
- Identify and deliver opportunities to grow sales, market share, distribution and profitability
- Lead the seasonal product and buying process for GAP Australia, ensuring local assortment reflects both global brand direction and the needs of the Australian consumer
- Lead seasonal range selection and assortment planning across Men’s, Women’s, Kids and Baby
- Develop annual budgets, forecasts and commercial plans with direct accountability for sales, gross margin, inventory and profitability targets
- Build strong strategic partnerships with Myer, The Iconic and other key wholesale accounts
- Develop customer-specific commercial, product and assortment strategies
- Translate GAP’s global brand strategy into relevant local market execution
- Build strong and productive relationships with GAP’s global stakeholders and represent the Australian market during seasonal market meetings and strategic discussions
- Provide clear commercial direction to the broader GAP team and ensure alignment around priorities, seasonal calendar and performance objectives
About You
- Experience in brand management, category management, buying, merchandising or a similar senior commercial role within fashion
- Strong knowledge of the Australian fashion, wholesale and retail landscape
- Experience working with major department stores or large retail accounts
- Strong product instincts and an understanding of assortment planning and range architecture
- Demonstrated commercial and financial acumen with experience managing sales, margin, inventory, forecasts and budgets
- The ability to interpret data and translate it into clear commercial actions
- Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working with international brands, licensors or global teams
- The ability to balance global brand direction with the commercial realities of the Australian market
- A proactive, accountable and solutions-focused approach with confidence to take genuine ownership of a brand and its performance
