JOB OVERVIEW
As a Garment Technician, you’ll be responsible for owning the specs from development to bulk and ensuring that each style meets technical specs, measurements, and ensuring the highest standard of fit, quality and construction and workmanship. Rather than maintaining existing systems, you’ll create new ones – developing garment blocks, refining grading systems, and implementing quality control standards.
The garment tech will also assist with a fit review project that will standardise sizing across all product categories, creating a consistent fit experience that customers can trust and that minimises waste through returns.
This role is a part time / freelance role that offers flexible working hours 2-3 days a week that can be negotiated with the right person.
Key Responsibilities
- Create all technical specs with garment measurements, construction and specifications – for local and offshore manufacturing.
- Work closely with product developer, machinists and pattern maker to ensure garments are checked thoroughly and constructed properly within spec.
- Set up grading for all styles.
- Assess all garments are up to manufacturing standards and capabilities – eg. Finishings + bulk fusing’s + any factory make requests.
- Measure and check all sample measurements and construction and make against patterns + specs.
- Send fit comments to suppliers – Protos / Pre Production / Shipment.
- Attend fit sessions for all sample stages.
- Handover specs to go to bulk to offshore suppliers.
- For local – handover specs for bulk to production team.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Fashion Design or Pattern Making.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, grading, pattern making and quality assurance.
- 4 years proven experience in a similar role.
- Proficiency across the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Excel & Word, with Adobe Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator) is highly regarded.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with offshore and local manufacturers.
- Strong understanding of garment testing, compliance and customer care standards.
