A moment for the baseball cap.
Warm weather dressing is on our minds as of late and at the top of our to-do list is finding the perfect hat. While we won’t be wearing a cowboy hat to the office or a sunhat out to dinner, you can get away with a good baseball cap just about anywhere.
Practical and sun smart, a well-fitting cap ticks every box and comes in endless style options. You can embrace the novelty of it all with kitschy details and rhinestones, make a statement with a slogan cap, lean into quiet luxury with an entirely blank cap, or opt for a classic logo style from your favourite label.

Whatever direction you go with, there’s no denying the effortlessly cool, off-duty look this accessory adds. It’s no wonder the local creatives we asked offered inspiring ways to style a cap for any situation.

A cap is the perfect ‘fake it until you make it’ accessory. If you’re feeling a little questionable after a weekend of crazy times, put on a cap. is your hair is on its last legs before a wash? Put on a cap. Is your outfit is boring and you want people to think you’re cool? Put on a cap. I’m an avid cap wearer and I’ll stand by them for making me go from a five to a 10 real quick. My cap collection grows weekly to the point where I’ve been banned from collecting more, but when you come across a good cap it’s a crime not to pounce.
A motto I stand by is to have a cap for every situation. Beach cap, scat cap, gym cap, swim cap, cool cap, sleep cap? The moral of the story, I love you, caps. This one on my head is coming soon to Norma’s Deli – she’s chic and cool and a good shape (phew).

I once had an ex who insisted that girls don’t wear caps – he clearly had no clue what he was talking about. I wear one almost every day! As someone with curly locks, caps are my go-to solution for taming day two or three frizz without the need to style my hair. Plus, they elevate any outfit effortlessly.
Right now, I’m obsessed with my hat from Raro Riche, a local Sydney label. The fit is spot on and it looks amazing on everyone who tries it. I adore the dark denim colour, which makes it super easy to style and the contrast stitching is just the icing on the cake for me.

I don’t have a huge hat collection but my favourite would have to be this silly camouflage number that I got from Swop a few months ago. At first glance, it just looks like a classic Naarmcore piece but then through the glare of the diamantes and the slightly obfuscated text, you realise what it really says (which is just a little joke, I promise I’m nice).
I wanted to lean into the trashiness of it all by pairing it with my denim printed Diesel swimwear and a bunch of chunky jewellery to create what I imagine is a look that a twink in Jersey Shore would wear. What can I say, some pieces are just meant to be styled scantily.

I’m a lover of hats, beanies and all things head coverage! I’ve had several hats over the years and tend to stick to hats with a shorter brim – think cycling and running hats, without the cycling or running to go with it.
I found this hat on a whim while thrifting in Japan. It’s quite different from my regular go-to’s but maybe that’s why I get so much wear out of it. It’s a mix between an engineer and a train conductor and I love the way it sits, fits and looks. I can easily dress it up and the leather strap on the back is a nice touch, too.

I love dropping into Vault to see the latest in vintage headwear. I came across Milliner Sandy Forrester’s stunning navy blue and red straw cap in the window last week and it reminds me of one of my style icons, Francois Hardy. It’s not your typical cap but I love styling it with my Marine Serre two-piece and my favourite Jean Paul Gaultier choker from Swop. Add a long leather trench and a pair of black patent leather boots and the look is complete. And a smoky bronze eye make-up and a nude lip à la Brigitte Bardot, of course. You can never have enough hats.

I’ve taken a real liking to baseball caps over the past year or so. For one, they make a great (and cheap) souvenir. I have one from an overseas trip to Norway and another kitschy cap from a tourist shop down at Sandy Point. Plus, there’s no shortage of styles, colours and fits from local Aussie labels as well. But more than anything, I love how they can pull your outfit together while hiding unruly hair.
I think a good-fitting baseball cap goes with anything. Here, I’m wearing one from Szade with jeans, my all-time favourite Tekla shirt and a white singlet.
