WORDS BY FASHION JOURNAL

A shortlist of the sellers we’re loving right now.

As much as we love Depop’s huge community of emerging fashion talent, navigating the platform can be an exhausting experience. You could spend weeks scrolling for the piece of your dreams, only to find it’s been sold to a higher bidder. And if you don’t have a clear shopping goal, browsing the ‘suggested’ section can feel like grocery shopping on an empty stomach.

The app requires a little luck and a lot of dedication, especially if you’re hoping to win big time. Luckily, Fashion Journal is quite well-versed in the world of Depop. To help improve your secondhand search efforts, the FJ team has compiled a list of the standout stores they’re following right now.

I love @fcshop because the person behind it, Flo C, has such a well-honed personal style; it’s fun, maximalist and a little bit grungy. I find the photo collages she sometimes makes helpful in figuring out what the items might actually look like on my body. Expect eye-catching vintage finds and a great selection of pieces from designers like Roberto Cavalli, Molly Goddard, Jean Paul Gaultier and Issey Miyake.

The seller @alwaysjudging has a remarkable eye for both high-end designer and vintage pieces. Much like the other seller I recommended, there’s a decidedly maximalist streak to her store’s offering. Despite this, the pieces all feel somewhat timeless and not too attached to flash-in-the-pan trends (unlike many Depop stores). Designer-wise, there are incredible pieces from labels like Saks Potts, Rosetta Getty, Sunnei, Orseund Iris and Isa Boulder – I honestly want to live inside this seller’s wardrobe. Plus, she’s the exact same height as me, which is useful when it comes to the factors like the length of pants.

Now stocked at Melbourne retailer Sucker, @bodiciab is one of those Depop finds you want to keep to yourself. Design student Bodie Keeley works with deadstock fabrics and trims to create wardrobe ‘building blocks’, perfect for layering and repeat wear. Still, every piece has a point of interest that separates it from any design you’ll find on the high street. Pieces are made by hand to order, in extremely limited runs, and demand is only growing.

Although I mostly spend time on Depop looking at pieces I know I’ll never bite the bullet on, one of my only purchases on the platform to date has been my Prada tote from Charbel. Known for sourcing cult-status pre-loved bags, the storefront has a wide array of vintage pieces that won’t break the bank. With regular restocks and sourced-to-order options, the Melbourne-based seller may be the first place to look for your next designer bag.

With Depop as her full-time gig, Sydney-based creative @lillianscott is well-versed in the art of secondhand clothing. As someone whose wardrobe is predominantly shades of black and grey, Lillian’s page provides me with some much-needed colourful inspiration. While she kills it in the outerwear department (this silk floral coat is adorable), her store gives me very summer vibes. I want to wear this crop and this bag to a sunny picnic.

When I’m looking for something extra special, I often find myself trawling the @syssoy storefront. Parisian seller Edo Tensei has the eye. The store’s curated vintage pieces look straight out of both Hackers and Almost Famous, somehow at the same time. When I’m feeling like I want to embody a very chic character, I’ll browse the range of Japanese denim, Italian avant-garde outerwear and exoskeleton-esque trousers.
