PETA has bought a stake in Prada to stop its use of ostrich leather

Playing hardball.

After buying a very small stake in luxury brand Hermès last July, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have upped their protest game.

The group has confirmed it is now a shareholder in Prada.

The announcement follows an investigation that revealed Prada’s ‘goose bump’ leather was being supplied by a South Africa company that slaughters ostriches as young as one.

Although we don’t know how big a stake the animal rights group owns, we do know it means a PETA representative is now able to sit in on Prada’s annual general meetings. They’ll be able to give input and argue their case firsthand – a win for animals everywhere.

“PETA is taking the fight against cruelty straight to Prada’s boardroom and demanding a permanent end to ostrich-skin handbags,” said PETA’s Executive Vice President, Tracy Reiman, in a statement.
