The recycled plastic Ultra Boost will soon be available in Aus

Very, very soon.

In a third collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, adidas has unveiled the first mass-produced running shoe made from recycled ocean plastic.

adidas may have tempted us with news of a re-release of its sustainable running shoe, but the Ultra Boost Uncaged Parley is actually here. And you can purchase it.

The shoe’s Primeknit upper is made from 95 per cent recycled ocean plastic, retrieved from clean-up operations in the Maldives. The other five per cent is recycled polyester.

Even the laces, heel cap base material, heel webbing and the sock-liner cover are all made using recycled materials.

And how’s this for sustainability. Each pair is made reusing 11 plastic bottles. Pretty nifty stuff.

The shoe’s design was inspired by ocean waves, a nod to the collaboration’s efforts to eliminate ocean waste pollution globally.

The brand first released prototypes of the shoe in June 2015, followed by a limited-edition run of 50 pairs in June this year. This time around, 7,000 pairs will be available to snap up.

But it doesn’t stop there. adidas has vowed to create one million pairs of shoes made with Parley Ocean Plastic by the end of 2017.

You can get your hands on the Ultra Boost Uncaged Parley from mid-November.
