The humble Birkenstock is getting a makeover.

For a second time, renowned Australian brand Gorman is collaborating with Birkenstock to bring you your new favourite summer sandal. The pair have upped their game since last year’s collaboration, increasing this year’s offering to seven limited-edition styles.

Typically, Birkenstocks are understated and humble, but this collaboration with Gorman has reinvented the classic Arizona style that we all know and love.

Each shoe features a limited edition Gorman archive print with matching hardware. From animal print to gingham, just think of Gorman’s distinctive colourways and prints, but now on your feet.

If you are someone who shies away from loud prints normally, this might be the perfect opportunity to dip your toes into the world of Gorman’s boisterous patterns, but in a more subdued way.

Birkenstock is not a brand that shies away from collaborations – in the past, it’s created limited-edition capsules with Opening Ceremony and designer Rick Owens, amongst others, and its collaboration with Céline in 2012 solidified its place in the world of high fashion.

These collaborations are so sought after that Birkenstock has had to turn down requests from major labels such as Supreme and Vetements due to high production demand.

Gorman is also a brand with a history of collaborations. Its current collection includes a collaboration with British artist Becky Blair, but we’ve also recently seen collaborations with Sydney artist Julia Flanagan and Indigenous artists from Mangkaja Arts Centre in Western Australia.

Gorman x Birkenstock is now available on Gorman’s website and instore, with a pair of sandals setting you back $169.
