PHOTOGRAPHER – KAITLYN BOSNJAK
MODEL – SOPHIA BRENN

“Lead with kindness.”

No one has just one job these days, and creatives certainly don’t. We’re a generation of multi-hyphenates and freelancers, just trying to make our way in the gig economy. Photographer Kaitlyn Bosnjak captures emerging models who are doing just that, breaking into the fashion industry and learning more about the world. While she had them, we thought we’d ask a couple of questions about the people behind the faces. And finally, what they would tell our audience if given the chance to say just one thing.

Where do you live?

Northern Beaches of Sydney.

Other than modelling what do you do with yourself?

I choreograph and work as a dance instructor part-time, I also spend a lot of time renovating and obsessing over my apartment, My boyfriend and I are working on our first flip!

Tell us about your heritage?

Caucasian with way-back stems from Western Europe and the UK.

Where are you isolating?

My home on the Northern Beaches.

Who do you live with?

My lovely boyfriend.

How have you been impacted by COVID-19?

I was stood down from a lot of work but the big one for me was that I had my UK visa and was days away from booking my one-way flight to London! So, the dream to move to the UK has been put on hold for now.

What are you doing to cope?

Lots of music, podcasts, books, home workouts, chats with friends and eating almond croissants. Drinking wine is good too.

Talk us through a typical day in isolation?

Wake up and have coffee in bed, procrastinate for far too long and then eventually do a workout, after this, I either get into the renovating or life admin that needs to be done!

What’s been the best thing to come out of the COVID experience’?

Being able to spend more time with my man, usually, we are on opposite schedules and barely see each other during the week, but we’ve used the last 2 – 3 months to redo our kitchen so that’s been a fun project to do together. Also, truly teaching myself the art of less, connecting with myself and learning how to relax and do nothing – still working on this.

What change do you hope comes out of this pandemic?

That people are more conscious about everything: what energy we put out into the world, the environment, how we treat others, what we spend our time and money on, [and] hygiene lol.

There’s a lot to care about in the world. What are you most passionate about?

Anything where there is injustice present lights a fire in my belly, representation and basic human rights is a no brainer.

You can say just one thing to our community. Go!

Lead with kindness.
