Calling all student designers, here’s your chance to show your work at fashion week

WORDS BY CAIT EMMA BURKE

Put yourself out there.

Are you a student designer? Or perhaps you know a young designer who is really, really talented? Well if so, read on. Melbourne Fashion Festival is back next year, running from March 3 to 12 and once again Fashion Journal is a supporting partner of the festival’s National Graduate Showcase (NGS).

The NGS spotlights Australia’s top 10 fashion design students from around the country. In 2022, the chosen finalists will display their collections to thousands of people in a 10-day exhibition at Federation Square. On top of that, the finalists will all be featured in a digital showcase that will be shot by HoMie and styled by Rhys Ripper.

The NGS fashion film will premiere at MFF’s Fashion Film Award screening at ACMI, on Friday March 4 2022. All finalists will be included in nationwide media coverage, including a feature on yours truly (aka Fashion Journal).

In addition to all the above, one lucky finalist will be given the opportunity to undertake a two-week internship with Sophie Holt, the Creative Director of Oroton, commencing in April 2022 at the brand’s Abbotsford studio.

Applications for the NGS have been extended, and are now open until this Friday December 3. MFF welcomes applications from students from accredited fashion design institutions across Australia.

Finalists will be handpicked by an impressive panel of fashion industry practitioners, including Fashion Journal’s very own Managing Editor, Giulia Brugliera.

You can find further details about the program and how to apply here, and if you’re a budding designer, best of luck.
