Made from home.

Lockdown has us frantically searching for new hobbies, which is why eco-conscious Melbourne-based handbag label Simétrie has just released its virtual leather pouch and bag-making workshops.

There are three different designs to choose from; you can go all out with a tote bag, create your own phone pouch, or start small with the coin purse

The design kit will include the pre-cut kangaroo leather pieces, complete with pre-punched stitching holes, coordinating thread and two needles, and you’ll also need to grab a reusable tool kit.

Everything is customisable, with the option of beige, black or brown leather. And to ensure credit where it’s deserved, you can even have your initials or name embossed on the front.

The workshops will cover everything you need to know about how to create your first hand-made leather bag. You’ll learn the assembly process plus how to saddle stitch – a super-strong, two-needle technique. You’ll be guided on burnishing leather edges and, depending on the design you choose, you’ll even learn how to fit a zipper or sew a pocket.

Simone Agius, founder and designer of Simétrie, has been running workshops in her Melbourne atelier since December 2018. She hopes the virtual edition will help us support one another during lockdown and foster creative expression during these isolated times.
