Back to the future.

It seemed fitting that on International Women’s Day, Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival celebrated two of Australia’s most iconic female designers.

Alexandra and Genevieve of Ginger & Smart were selected to present their AW18 collection at this year’s Virgin Australia Grand Showcase presented by Marie Claire, and they didn’t disappoint.

It was one of the label’s largest collections to date, taking influence from technology and exploring the tension between future and nature. Ginger & Smart used graphic line work, futuristic florals and textural three-dimensional fabrics to translate this modern concept.

Geometric patterns were accompanied by ethereal music, while holographic burgundy dresses and skirts were complemented by maroon sequinned textures.

The sister label, AKIN by Ginger & Smart, boasted cloaked models in pale pinks, blues and emerald greens. Accessories were also taken care of by the designers, with blush Ginger & Smart kicks marching down the runway.

We collated our favourite looks from the show, as well as a sneak peek of all the excitement backstage.

Enjoy.
