I dressed like my Venus sign for the week, here’s how it went

WORDS BY CELESTE MARTINE

Outfits styled by the stars.

Planning your outfits for the week can be a repetitive process. So as a lover of astrology, when I came across a TikTok that discussed how dressing like your Venus sign can elevate your style, I had to test it out for myself.

After calculating my birth chart, I found my Venus sign was in the planet of Capricorn. Astrologer Marion Westaway gave me some insight into how to harness the power of my Venus sign when styling outfits. She told me that Capricorn Venus was a lover of “tailored looks, suits, [and the] high-end and expensive”.

As an earth sign, Capricorn is all about “looking put-together, a no-nonsense approach [to fashion], simple lines [and] class”. In terms of colours, Marion told me to think “black, white, navy, blue and brown”. The style inspiration she gave me was Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction. So, with guidance from the stars, I styled my outfits for the week.

Monday

I started with a simple ensemble: tailored suit pants paired with an oversized men’s shirt and Uniqlo sweater. Taking Marion’s advice, I gravitated towards blue and black tones in my wardrobe, tying the black together with this Gliese 504 silk organza scrunchie I purchased from the Rose Street Artists’ Markets (and am rightfully obsessed with).

Tuesday

Tuesday was an outfit I was particularly pleased with. It’s not something I would usually gravitate towards to but I decided to pair this high-neck cream ruffle blouse with a square-neck bodysuit and tailored, Cue suit paints. I tied the cream of the blouse in with these adorable white Billini kitten heels, keeping with tailored, simple lines throughout. I got compliments on the blouse too, which was a bonus, and perhaps an indicator there may be something in Venus-sign dressing.

Wednesday

If I doubted the power of Venus-sign dressing before, the compliments I got on this outfit were a clear indicator that it works. Once again sticking to the theme of navy and black, I paired this thrifted Marks and Spencer skirt with a thrifted turtleneck singlet (because trying something new doesn’t always mean buying something new).

I tied the black in with my favourite pair of Roc Nebraska Boots and black sunnies. It was drizzling on this day so this trusty faux-leather jacket I found on Depop made an appearance. I felt confident in this look.

Thursday

This outfit might have been my favourite of the week. The formula was simple – I stuck to the blue and black colour scheme I’d been assigned and opted for a short-and-vest combination to tie in the black of the Nebraska boots. They deserved a second appearance.

To get the cropped look of the vest I used the TikTok shoelace hack, which is an absolute godsend I found myself using multiple times throughout the week. For added interest, I once again accessorised with the Gliese 504 scrunchie (I told you I was obsessed).

Friday

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you my take on Mia Wallace. She was the inspiration I was given for this Venus-dressing endeavour, so of course, I had to pay tribute to that Pulp Fiction fashion moment. I wanted to bring my own take to the look, so, I opted for this DIY shirt I made, which was inspired by the original Maison Margiela Artisanal Kiss Shirt from the 2006/2007 collection.

I’d made this out of a Calvin Klein shirt for my boyfriend one Valentine’s Day and decided this was the perfect time to wear it. I paired the shirt with a vintage leather blazer, tailored black pants and black pumps.

Saturday

On Saturday, I decided it was time to step outside of my comfort zone for date night. I’d seen this outfit on Pinterest and wanted to recreate it with this lace bodysuit I’d bought (in an attempt to prove to myself that I would, in fact, re-wear it).

I layered over the same turtleneck singlet from Wednesday and an oversized, thrifted black blazer. Underneath I wore black shorts for added coverage. The accessories are what stepped this ensemble up and made it feel luxurious. I felt confident and put together, embodying that Venus-sign energy.

Sunday

Sunday was self-care day, so I opted for comfort while still keeping the Capricorn traits in mind. This black suit set was perfect for lounging around the house and getting organised. I kept my feet cozy in these platform Uggs and a black headband, which helped to elevate the look while covering these grown-out curtain bangs.

So, what’s the verdict? This trend was so much fun to style, and I can’t deny the positive feedback I got on these looks. The Venus-sign dressing challenge inspired me to pair pieces I wouldn’t normally gravitate towards, which was fun to play around with.

Like anything, I think Venus-sign dressing is a great start if you’re gathering inspiration, but I’d put them to you as guidelines rather than rules. Fashion is fun and as an advocate for aesthetic-switching, I wouldn’t recommend you stick to the Venus sign-dressing rules. But if you’re ever stuck and wondering what to wear, your birth chart might have the answers for you.
