What a model scout wears.
It’s never easy trying to come up with new outfit combinations for the working week. Instead of having a set uniform, an ever-changing schedule means every morning requires a set of questions. Am I running around, or just sitting at my desk? Do I need to dress specifically for a project? And what am I meant to do when my favourite pants are in the wash?
Given that it can be a daily struggle, we’re asking our favourite local creatives for outfit inspiration. This week we’re digging through the wardrobe of one of our favourite style icons, Connie Hutton.

Based in Sydney, Connie is the Scouting and Development Manager at IMG Models. For many, her role conjures up an image of a model scout roaming a busy mall in search of the next Kate Moss or Naomi Campbell. The reality is not entirely different.
On any given week, Connie might be on set overseeing model test shoots, catching up on admin at her desk, visiting talent like Amou Ring (who just walked her first Balenciaga Couture show in Paris) on location or out street scouting.
Naturally, her work wardrobe needs to keep pace with her day-to-day. Her style is an effortless blend of vintage designer finds from small secondhand boutiques or local labels, like Tough Auto and Jing Hé. Some mornings, she’ll dress according to whatever feels fun and exciting; other days, practicality takes priority.
Monday

Monday was a perfect mild and sunny winter day, so I was desperate to put on some capris. The pair in question are my favourites from Isabel Marant, which I bought from Little Tattys in Auckland. I paired these with some vintage Tom Ford sunglasses and my favourite Tough Auto bag, which is made in Auckland by my swag and award-winning friend Dom.
This was a typical Monday spent in the office catching up on emails from the weekend, but I wanted to start the work week on a fun foot and wear something cute.
Tuesday

I was on set today shooting new faces for IMG Models. Like a parent, I get busy during the school holidays because it’s the time I can focus on developing our models in high school while they’re on holidays. I love these development test shoot days because it’s so rewarding helping models at the start of their journeys and watching them grow.
I’m constantly running around on set, so I opted for a tight grey skirt from Save Mart. I believe it must’ve been part of a dance group uniform because when I bought it there were 15 pairs. The rabbit fur-trimmed coat and Celine sunglasses are recent Depop purchases that I’m very pleased with.
Wednesday

Today I was in the office and went out to visit Amou, a model I manage, while she was on set, which is always fun and brings me back to my days as a styling assistant. She just had her debut walking the Balenciaga Couture show!
Today, I’m wearing my trusty MM6 boots and my waxed denim jeans by Jing Hé. If I had to say any outfit was my uniform, it would be this.
Thursday

I woke up and knew I wanted to wear my Comme des Garçons ballon shorts. I was going to watch the Sydney Dance Company at the Opera House that night, so I needed an outfit that could take me from work to play. I purchased the shorts last year on a Melbourne trip at Bruce. The jacket is also Comme des Garçons but from Scotties in Auckland. I must be in a certain mood to wear this outfit, and apparently I was in that mood that day.
Friday

Friyay is my WFH day, so I always like to go out street scouting if possible. Scouting is a part of my role at IMG and is so important for finding the next gen of models – however, a lot of models also apply online to IMG, which we love as well!
Street scouting is rather active. You are out walking around for long periods of time, so appropriate footwear is a must. Most of my shoes are terrible for walking long periods in, but these Bally loafers are legendary. A jacket with pockets is also a must, accompanied by my Tough Auto belt.
Keep up with Connie here.
