For happy not-so-little Vegemites.
There are two types of people in this world: those who love Vegemite, and those who think even its existence is a crime against humanity.
If you belong in the second category, brace yourself before reading on.
In a fit of patriotism, Aussie distillery Archie Rose has created a brand new spirit that *tastes* like Vegemite on toast.
To make the drink – cheekily dubbed ArchieMite – a house-made ‘mite spread’ was mixed with 15 kilos of Sonoma sourdough and 25 kilos of Pepe Saya butter.
The mite-butter-bread flavour combo is definitely unconventional and, like Vegemite itself, will probably suit some palates more than others. But we can’t deny our curiosity is Vegemite on a spoon-level strong.
Celebrating the launch of the spirit, Sydney’s Archie Rose Bar will be hosting ‘Mitey Brunches’ each Saturday and Sunday between May 11 and June 2. Expect a menu including Espresso Mite-inis, Mitey Bloody Mary’s and some carb-heavy hors d’oeuvres.
If you’re not a local but want to give ArchieMite a try, you can get your hands on a bottle online or from selected bars and bottle shops. But be quick – only 3000 bottles have been brewed.
