It’s Jodie’s sick, sad world now.
About a year ago, we were promised a Daria reboot, and we definitely haven’t forgotten about it.
Luckily, new info on the series has finally been released.
While the MTV show was previously called Daria and Jodie, the title has now officially been changed to just Jodie.
The spinoff will follow a fan favourite from the original series, Daria’s close friend Jodie Landon, as she graduates and joins the ‘real world’.
Last time we saw Jodie, she was struggling to decide which college to attend post-high school. Now, we’ll catch up with her a few years later as she gets her first job in the tech industry.
Bringing the sarcastic, insightful brilliance of Jodie to life is Tracee Ellis Ross, who will act as both the voice of the titular character and executive producer of the series.
Ross says the spinoff will be a humorous look at Gen Z culture, while also tackling important issues faced by women – and particularly black women – in modern society.
“It will be a smart, funny workplace comedy full of commentary about everything from gentrification to sex to tech to call-out culture,” the actress said in a statement.
As well as being the first adult animated show in almost 20 years to star a black woman, the series is reported to have a diverse cast and plenty of complex, ambitious female characters.
Whether the title change means Daria herself won’t be making an appearance remains to be seen. But we’ll keep our fingers crossed for at least an update on what she’s been up to.
Keep an eye out for more info, including a release date.
