Paris is installing free sparkling water taps all over the city

WORDS BY TARA SMITH

How to be Parisian.

So, in case you weren’t already aware, Paris has had free sparkling water taps installed since 2010.

If that wasn’t enough of a shock to you, the city has plans to install nine more city-wide. Granted, there were only eight taps to begin with, but that’s a whole lot more than we’ll ever have.

The aim is for every arrondissement (or district) in Paris to have at least one fountain, which is the absolute height of luxury if you ask us.

It’s all under the guise of influencing Parisians to ‘drink more water’, but really it’s an excuse for Paris to show off its lavishness to the rest of us.

“People often told me that they were ready to drink tap water if it was carbonated,” Anne le Strat, former Deputy Mayor of Paris, told French magazine 20 Minutes in 2010.

Now there’s no excuse.
