Strap yourselves in, Melbourne.
The NGV is kicking some major goals lately.
If news of the upcoming Keith Haring x Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibit wasn’t enough, the gallery has also announced the arrival of a special KAWS exhibition this September.
Companionship in the Age of Loneliness will introduce audiences to the full range of KAWS’ body of work, spanning pop culture paintings, human-scale figures and a newly commissioned monumental sculpture (his largest bronze sculpture to date). It will also explore his various collaborations with major brands and other creatives.
The New York-based artist is one of the most prolific of his generation, known for his colour-filled paintings of cartoon/human hybrids and giant sculptures.
KAWS: Companionship in the Age of Loneliness will kick off at NGV International from September 20, 2019 and will run through to March 1, 2020.
It’s going to be one jam-packed summer at the NGV.
