Learn from the best.

For many of us, sex was a topic we learnt about in vague, misinformed detail. It was passed along in the schoolyard, found via confronting Google searches or gleaned from painfully awkward chats about ‘the birds and the bees’. Even if you were lucky enough to have a parental figure open and willing enough to sit you down and teach you about sex, the conversation around this once-taboo subject has changed drastically in recent years.

Sex has moved to the forefront of public discussion, and with that has come an abundance of new information and a focus on the importance of sexual literacy. This is where sexologists and sex therapists come in. Sexology is the scientific study of various aspects of sexual behaviour, desires, and interactions, with a focus on research, education and counselling.

Sex therapists usually specialise in providing therapy and counselling with a focus on practical solutions for deeper psychological issues. While the two are different, there is often an overlap between the roles and both are important in helping dispel misconceptions and reduce the stigmas associated with sex.

With a constant stream of readily available information on the internet, it can be difficult to find the right sources to fill our feeds. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite Australian sexologists and sex therapists to follow on Instagram, so you can stay up to date on the ever-evolving world of sex.
