These are the most addictive songs of 2020, according to Brisbane indie-pop singer Clea

WORDS BY CAIT EMMA BURKE

The best of the best.

Despite it being an unbelievably terrible year (or perhaps because of it?), 2020 has been packed with excellent music. So much of it, in fact, that I’m sure there are albums, singles and music videos that have entirely passed you by.

I know there have been for me, and that’s why I’m asking some of Australia’s most innovative and talented artists to tell me about the music they couldn’t stop listening to this year. Because who better to ask than people who literally make music for a living?

Our next artist in the series is Brisbane indie-pop singer Clea. Described as one to watch, according to Triple J her music “seems to cast a spell over you”, and earlier this year we described her single ‘Soft Blow To The Head’ as being like stepping “into a dream world”.

Her latest single, ‘Limelight’, is an ethereal, shimmering track with an equally as mesmerising accompanying video (where she is really serving some serious looks). Without further ado, these are the songs that Clea couldn’t stop listening to this year.

Samia – ‘Big Wheel’

This is a real storytelling gem. “I got bad news but I didn’t fight it” – accepting the dark [is] something I’m really coming to terms with this year. The mix is so spacious and light and the vocals sit just right.

Radium Dolls – ‘Where To Go’

Every now and then it’s healthy to change. Whether that be your favourite restaurant, beer choice or career, this song will guide you. One of the best live bands in Bris at the moment.

Ariana Grande – ‘Positions’

Definitely my top pop song of 2020. This song is so delicious, it’s the use of ambient crickets throughout the mix that does it for me.

Wilson’s Prom – ‘Love Fool’

The lyrics and the production are so tight, the dark all-encompassing feel takes you to the far side of the moon. Such a beautiful mix of Merpire and Feelds’ voices. Yum!

Harry Styles – ‘Golden’

This song instantly grabs you, you can feel the love within the first three seconds. Honestly just a warm, feel-good song the world needs right now.

Nice Biscuit – ”Fem Chem’

Looking to add something to your taro cards and horoscope readings? Nice Biscuit is the perfect female-powered psych ingredient.

Benee – ‘Happen To Me’

This song has a wonderful syncopated rhythm that lulls you into a trance. You can’t help but be enticed by Benee’s husky tones.

Straight Girls – ‘Casey On The Big Screen’

A new artist to look out for! This song is so unique it’s hard to put into words, I just want to listen over and over, and so should you!

Tame Impala – ‘Posthumous Forgiveness’

It wouldn’t be a 2020 fave list without Tame. This song gives me full-body chills.
