Sampa the Great cast her own parents in her new music video

And announces new Australian tour dates.

Sampa the Great has just announced her debut album is on its way, teasing the release with a brand new single.

‘OMG’ is another taste of what to expect on the album The Return, which is set for release on September 13.

As well as being a hectic, vaguely cinematic bop, the track sets out to make a statement around Sampa’s heritage and the African diaspora.

“To me ‘OMG’ sounds like the songs we heard in our childhood,” she explains in a press release. “It’s broadly about flexing your culture! Loving where you’re from and even being shocked at the realisation of not knowing how dope it is to ‘be who you are’.”

In an adorable representation of this connection to culture, Sampa cast her own parents in the single’s music video.

Similar themes will apparently play out across the rest of the upcoming album, which references both contemporary hip-hop and ancient Southern African sounds.

Before The Return drops, you can pre-order a copy here, watch ‘OMG’ below, or check out dates for Sampa’s upcoming Australian tour here.
