Teischa drops a breakup track, but it’s ‘Not A Sad Song’

Words by Mariah Papadopoulos

“This track was born out of experiencing lots of change in my life.”

Teischa’s latest track, ‘Not A Sad Song’, is a breakup song without the heartbreak. It’s mellow and low-key, featuring piano samples and skittering drums.

Initially, it feels like any other chilled-out future-soul song. The lyrics tell a different story though, as Teischa grapples with growing apart and moving on.

Even so, she’s cool and detached, so it’s not overly emotional.

“This track was born out of experiencing lots of change in my life, so my music naturally started to take that energy on.”

Teischa worked on the track with producer Lucianblomkamp, who has worked with 6LACK, Khalid and Moss Kena.

“The song feels heavy when you reflect on the lyrics, but also makes you move and wanna let go of anything weighing you down,” she explains.

These days, the 22-year-old has played at music festivals around the world including Splendour in the Grass, Live at Leeds, Primavera Sound, Groovin The Moo and Byron Bay Bluesfest.

Teischa will perform in Perth on November 8 at Si Paradiso.
