Chatting spring hair with Oscar Oscar

We talk spring trends with hair master Jacky Chan of Oscar Oscar salons.

As seasons change, so too do trends. So to keep abreast of what’s in for spring we chatted with hair master Jacky Chan from Oscar Oscar salons:

What are your hair predictions for spring 2014?

My hair predictions for this coming season are enhancing natural movement with styling that is less polished and more relaxed, think undone waves and loose textured upstyles. Long bobs are on trend with dishevelled texture cut into the mid-lengths and ends. It’s laid back holiday hair, but with a luxury feel.

What is your must-have styling product?

My favourite product is Shu Uemura Texture Wave, which is a dry workable hairspray enriched with cotton seed oil that helps to maintain your hair’s moisture balance and create prolonged textured and volume. It is perfect to spray on your roots or midlengths to create buildable grip and a fuller touch, to give your hair lived-in texture with a no-shine finish.

What style do you see making a comeback this season, if any?

Definitely buns and knots, placed high or low. From a polished red-carpet finish as seen on celebrities to messy wispy runway looks as seen straight from NYFW…. a great example was the Phillip Lim show.

What is the hair colour of the season?

Softer more natural looking balayage with muted rose gold tones. I love strawberry and honey blondes!

What product should we befriend in spring?

A hydrating masque such as Shu Uemura Moisture Velvet masque. As we are coming out of winter, hair tends to be drier due to the use of more hairdryers and stylers through the colder months. This masque will have your hair spring/ summer ready in no time!

What are your hair predictions for the spring racing carnival?

The big one is the low back ponytail. It can be dressed up with a sleek and sophisticated finish or textured and undone for a more relaxed vibe. It also works well with hats and fascinators and will not detract from your dress which should be the star of the show!

What is favourite celebrity style?

Suki Waterhouse and Lea Seydoux, both just look so effortless. I am loving Lea’s latest chop and her colour is right on point.

What do you love about Oscar Oscar?

The spaces that we work in are beautiful, it’s pure luxury. Also the brands that we are aligned with are second to none with Kérastase Paris, Shu Uemura and Aveda. These luxury hair care brands source ingredients and inspiration from all over the world, it’s an incredible mix of brands that we are able to work with.

What is your proudest hair styling moment?

Styling international makeup artist and prolific beauty blogger Michelle Phan for an event held here in Melbourne.

What are the biggest hair mistakes people make?

Not having the right styling tools for home. The perfect shampoo, conditioner and styling products are essential, as well as a great brush and hairdryer. These are the foundations for creating beautiful hair at home.
