What’s not to like?

Name: Mecca Cosmetica Enlightened Illuminating Eye
Price: $30
What it does:  Leaves a light-reflecting glow across the eye
Available from: mecca.com.au

How it feels/smells/looks

Shiny, glittery and fun, what’s not to like about all these eye polishes hitting the market? Natasha Denona and Hourglass have recently released similar products, so I was interested to try a more affordable option. In comparison, the Mecca polishes are less buttery and not as thick in consistency once applied to the eye. I expected a pretty full-on sparkle, but they are more of a glitter top-coat than a stand-alone eyeshadow.

Once applied to the eye, they give you a thin sparkly layer of glitter and can be built from a very thin sheen, to a medium level of shine.

Why I like it

The Mecca polishes are slightly different to other brands I have tried. As they apply in quite thin layers to the eye, you are able to achieve a more subtle effect if required, or build them up for a more glam look. I feel they are perfect for the party season and the colour selection speaks to me – gold, bronze and copper, you really can’t go wrong!

They are easy to work with and best applied with a fingertip. My personal preference is something more dramatic, but I do like these as a more wearable option.

Areas for improvement

The packaging is nice to look at, but a little on the flimsy side. Each pot contains a stopper on the inside to prevent the product from drying out (which is great) but I find it’s easily lost.
