Elf’s cult-favourite Halo Glow Liquid Filter has landed in Australia, so I put it to the test

Does it live up to the hype?

Elf has officially launched its Halo Glow Liquid Filter in Australia, sold exclusively at Priceline and on Elf’s website. First released outside of Australia in July last year, the beauty brand’s glowy skincare-makeup hybrid broke the internet, with people claiming it was a dupe for the cult-favourite Charlotte Tilbury product, Hollywood Flawless Filter. Instantly going viral on TikTok, the hashtag #elfhaloglow had 81.3 million views at the time of writing.

I was one of the many Australians who watched these videos wistfully, wondering when I would be able to get my hands on this bottle of glowing goodness. Why did we have to sit out while the US and UK got to have all the fun? I even tried multiple times to purchase it through international beauty websites, only to be roadblocked by astronomical shipping prices or every shade being sold out.

Eight months after its initial release, Elf finally made the announcement on its Instagram that it was bringing its well-awaited liquid filter to Australian beauty lovers. You best believe that my fingers typed faster than ever before to take me to the Priceline website, pick out a shade and get my hands on it the second I found out. A few hours later, I picked up my Elf Halo Glow Liquid Filter, beyond excited to try it out.

It comes in a bottle with a concealer-like wand, making it easy to swipe across areas of your face and then blend out with your fingertips, beauty blender or brush. I chose to do it with my fingers, as that’s how I’ve watched countless beauty gurus blending in their own liquid filters while I’ve been smooth-brain scrolling on TikTok.

And let me tell you, it blended into my skin like butter. I didn’t even have to go over it with a beauty blender afterwards like other BB creams and foundations I’ve used, as it left no creases. On top of the easy blending, the product looks incredible on the skin – I was glowing to the gods. It’s very light coverage, so my acne and texture did show through (something to consider if you’re more of a full-coverage girlie).

For every day wear I don’t mind this, but for nights out I’d layer it under my foundation for heavier coverage. It has a second-skin effect and makes me look as though I have naturally glowing skin, which I am absolutely here for. Paired with bronzer, blush and some mascara, it provides the ultimate ‘clean girl’ look.

I’m usually tentative about dewy/glowy filters, skin tints and BB creams because they tend to make me look like an oily mess as the day goes on, but this wasn’t the case here. I checked in six hours after initially applying, and my skin was still looking as glowy as it did at the start of the day (and I’d spent the day at university, zipping around running errands). My complexion tone was still even thanks to the filter, and my usual redness was not peeking through – other than my angry spots, which were the same as the start of the day.

Fast forward to the end of the day, and my makeup was still intact. Since I wanted to properly test out the Elf Halo Glow Liquid Filter, I didn’t apply any other face products, other than a touch of concealer and powder under my eyes. It didn’t look patchy, and my cheeks were still glowing, although slightly less than when the day began.

My forehead’s shine had turned from one of radiance to a slight but definitely noticeable oiliness but it was nowhere near as bad as other dewy skin tints and BB creams I’ve tried. Overall, I truly can’t fault this product.

As an acne-prone person with combination skin that’s prone to oiliness, I usually opt for medium coverage so I was pleasantly surprised that this minimal coverage filter still looked great on my skin. And the fact it made me look like the hyper glowy clean girls who come up on my Pinterest feed? Incredible. I’ll be using this on a daily basis from now on.

If you prefer lighter coverage or even want an extra glow underneath your foundation, this is definitely the product for you. I would strongly advise you to run (definitely don’t walk) to Priceline or Elf Australia’s website because it’s bound to sell out in the blink of an eye.
