Alexander Wang’s second UNIQLO collection takes summer dressing back to basics

Words by Mariah Papadopoulos

Things are heating up.

Japanese clothing giant UNIQLO is teaming up with Alexander Wang for another line.

The collaboration will produce a new iteration of UNIQLO’s line of functional apparel, called AIRism, adapted to Alexander Wang’s signature minimalist style.

Last year’s union, the first between UNIQLO and Alexander Wang, featured heattech fabric designed to keep us warm for winter. This latest drop is a Spring/Summer 2019 collaboration, so the fabrics are cool and weightless, engineered to release heat and moisture.

The women’s collection includes camisoles and slips made of a super-light AIRism material, created to feel like a second skin. There are also bralettes, undies and bike shorts made of the same fabric, but in a seamless, stretchy design perfect for non-constrictive undergarments.

The men’s range features T-shirts, tanks, briefs and boxer briefs in the AIRism material, but with a cotton finish. The men’s pieces are marketed as ‘innerwear’, but they’re thick enough to be worn as outerwear too.

UNIQLO’s LifeWear philosophy is to make simple garments in the highest quality fabrics that fit well and stand the test of time, and this collaboration is no exception.

Alexander Wang’s own label continually develops and reinterprets the urban uniform. With UNIQLO calling its LifeWear range the building blocks of each individual’s style, we can expect the collaboration to provide comfortable, versatile garments in neutral hues.
