The 2018 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival program is here

Words by Tara Smith

A year of firsts.

As we’re officially into the swing of the new year, it means the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival is fast approaching.

There’s just under two months to go until Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building is transformed into a fashion hub of runways, workshops, industry talks, showcases and more.

Taking place from March 1 – March 18, this year will be the festival’s biggest yet. There’ll be the introduction of 19 additional runways, resulting in almost 50 runway events taking place across the entire program. Fittingly, the 2018 theme of the festival is Fashion, Future and Technology, so expect a new era of events to rock the schedule.

For the first time, a Luxury Bridal Runway will be held on March 7, along with seven world-class runways between March 6 and March 10. You can also look forward to the largest line-up of women speakers ever across the Ideas Program, boasting bestselling authors, editors, photographers and more.

Continuing the theme of firsts, making their VAMFF debut will be designers Hansen and Gretel, Arnsdorf, Chris Ran Lin, P.E Nation, Nice Martin, Kaliver, Atori and Elliatt. For extra fun between runways, The Plaza will come to life from March 5 – March 10, with food and drink pop-ups, entertainment and more.

Another highlight of the festival is the National Graduate Showcase (presented by Target and supported by yours truly), in which you can expect a preview from the country’s top-tier student designers.

Of course, we could write about the jam-packed program all day, but we’ll let you check it out for yourself.

Tickets are on sale now here.
