IMG’s Australian Fashion Laureate Winners for 2019

Talented bunch.

The winner of IMG’s Australian Fashion Laureate was announced yesterday in Sydney.

A panel of over 30 industry leaders chose Sydney-born editor-in-chief of InStyle US, Laura Brown as the recipient of the coveted award to recognise her contribution to the fashion industry over the past two decades.

Lee Mathews won for Best Australian Womenswear and Double Rainbouu for Best Australian Menswear.

Sister duo, Ilona Hamer and Peta Heinsen took out the award for Best Australian Emerging Talent for their minimalist swimwear label, Matteau.

Sarah and Sebastian won Best Australian Accessories for 2019 and Bassike nabbed the Best Australian Retailer award. Bassike stylist and creative director at Vogue Australia, Jillian Davison was named Outstanding Creative in the awards ceremony.

Indigenous model Charlee Fraser was named Model of the Year.

IMG also introduced a new category, Sustainable Innovation for the 2019 awards to highlight brands that are leading the best practices in sustainability. The independent Melbourne label, ELK by husband and wife Marnie Going and Adam Koniaris, won the Sustainable Innovation award for its slow fashion ethos.

The awards this year celebrate the Australian Fashion Industry while highlighting the growing push for diversity and consumer push towards sustainable action.
