Love is in the air, literally.

New Zealand Fashion Week kicked off this week in the most romantic way possible.

Kate Sylvester presented its latest collection, Love Letters, in a runway complete with actual love letters floating about the stage.

The story behind the collection involves designer Kate Sylvester finding a box filled with hundreds of letters exchanged between her parents in the ’50s.

Taking inspiration from this display of romance, the collection is heavy on floaty silhouettes, lush textiles and floral designs. These super feminine silhouettes were styled for the show with masculine touches like gumboots and berets as a nod to the wartime era.

And, not content with just taking inspiration from the letters, the label had copies made on speciality paper to be strewn about the runway like magical, love-soaked confetti.
