Having long been an advocate for environmental practices, Stella McCartney has partnered with the UN to launch a sustainable fashion charter.

Announced on stage as part of Business of Fashion’s VOICES event, the charter will pave the way for more sustainable business practices in the fashion industry. It includes things like creating low-carbon strategies and promoting the use of materials that have a smaller environmental footprint.

The full charter is set to be launched in Poland on December 10, with 16 commitments to help fashion brands lessen their environmental impact. While signatories are yet to be announced, rumour has it several major fast fashion brands are among the mix.

McCartney also took the opportunity to announce her new charitable initiative, Stella McCartney Cares Green – a sibling to the existing Stella McCartney Cares Pink platform.

Stella McCartney Cares Green aims to create positive change by empowering students, professionals and businesses to embrace sustainability on a global scale.
