UNIQLO and Marimekko are launching a summer-fun inspired collection and it’s pure joy

An ode to Finnish
summer living.
UNIQLO’s limited-edition Spring/Summer ’20 collection, launching on August 6, will showcase six iconic summer prints from Finnish design house Marimekko’s legendary designers Maija Isola and Annika Rimala.
The bold and bright prints capture the Finnish take on celebrating the end of long winters and the joys of summertime with friends and family, while also adding a splash of fun to UNIQLO’s LifeWear range, which is built around a clothing philosophy grounded in the Japanese values of simplicity, quality and longevity.
Inspired by time spent relaxing in nature and large rough-edged stones, Maija created The Kivet (stones) print featuring bright-coloured freehand circles, as well as the Tori (marketplace) print which captures the vibrancy of summer fruits.
Annika combined bold line and colour work in her Laine (waves) pattern and her Raide (railroad track) pattern, which both capture the slow movement of summer vacations. Plus, her Papajo (papaya) print represents pebbles on a shoreline and rolling waves, while her Kukka (flower) design feels like a playful take on daisy fields.
The collection’s pieces are also crafted with variety and versatility in mind, something both brands are well known for. The signature V-neck maxi-dresses and shirt styles can be easily paired with wide pants, shorts and skirts. And, with a range of plain bottoms in comfortable fabrics like linen blend, cotton and jersey, there’s plenty of colourful pairings to be made.
Speaking of pairings, the collection aims to make family coordination fun and easy, by offering the pieces in sizes from newborn to adult – I can already see the matching mum and baby selfies.
When it comes to accessories and outerwear, the collection has all the summer leisure essentials you could need, like UV-blocking hats and tote bags, espadrilles and large-linen scarves that can double up as short overgarments. Plus, the collection’s new Pocketable Parka will keep you dry on those temperamental, rainy summer days.
The limited-edition UNIQLO x Marimekko LifeWear collection will be available from August 6 in all Australian stores and online. I know, we can’t wait either.
