A week in work outfits with Melbourne content creator, Jess Alizzi

WORDS BY MAGGIE ZHOU AND IZZY WIGHT

“Every day is a content day.”

Working in a creative role, it can be difficult to know how to dress for the day. Instead of having a set uniform of crisp white shirts and tailored black pants (as much as I love both), an ever-changing schedule means every morning requires a set of questions. Am I running around, or just sitting at my desk? Do I need to dress specifically for a project? And most importantly, will I be in the background of someone’s TikTok?

Though Jess Alizzi hasn’t clocked into an office job in years, her work as a digital content creator and as the founder of matcha brand Hikuu keeps her balancing a blend of corporate cool and relaxed silhouettes. Known for her penchant for pared-back, neutral and elevated looks, you’ll find Jess reaching for slouchy knits and wide-legged pants this winter – all, of course, in hues of grey, navy, black or white. Below, she logs a week in her life and tells us about the outfits she chose to wear each day.

Monday

Monday is my working-from-home, life admin day. I’ll take Zoom meetings from my dining table, call the dentist and drink copious amounts of Hikku matcha while I try to get my life sorted enough that I feel ready to take on a new week. For this, comfort is absolutely key.

It’s pretty cold in Melbourne right now, so I am all about the cosy knitted jumpers, loose trousers, Boston Birkenstocks and oversized scarves. This one specifically I’ve had for over eight years and don’t ever seem to tire of it.

Tuesday

Besides Monday, my weeks typically have no routine – I tend to plan things last minute and have learnt to just go with the flow, given this is just how this industry works. It took some getting used to at first, but as the years have gone by, this has low-key become my favourite part of the job. Not the lifestyle for everyone – but I love it!

Today I am meeting up with a client over a quick coffee, picking up some product that I’ll be shooting for a job later in the week, packing orders for Hikku and meeting a friend for knock-off drinks at Napier Quarter. This outfit felt comfortable and chic enough to do all those things, while still looking somewhat put together.

I just got this suede jacket from a cool concept store that recently opened in Flinders Lane called Up There and I love it. [It’s] surprisingly warmer than it looks!

Wednesday

Today is a content day. I mean, to be honest, every day is a content day. But I do still have designated days where I will churn out as much content as humanly possible and will make the sole purpose of the day to ‘get content’. On these days I will load up my car boot with all the looks I need [or] want to shoot [or] film and I’ll drive around Melbourne, stopping along the way to capture moments that inspire me and shoot jobs that need producing, all the while getting changed 10 times in the backseat of my car.

I chose comfort as my first look of the day. I’m [also] really into navy at the moment [and] paired it with [a] little pop of green from the [Adidas] Gazelles. I actually felt pretty great in this look. I picked up these sneakers from my recent Seoul trip. I hadn’t seen this colourway in Melbourne before and although I’m typically a neutral girl – green is my exception, so they needed a place in my wardrobe.

Thursday

Thursday was serving business girl. I had a meeting with my graphic designer for some new products we are launching for Hikuu and decided to work from a café for the remainder of the day. As someone who almost entirely dresses for their mood, today I just felt like looking a little more put together. I guess this was the result.

Tonal as always, I opted for black, navy, and greys to create my perfect, little winter look. This Bottega [Veneta] bag from Harrolds has become a go-to of mine in recent months. [It’s] big enough to fit everything, but the structure makes it chicer than a tote.

Friday

My day is starting off with a lunch event, followed by an afternoon brand launch event, followed by dinner and drinks with friends in the evening, so it’ll be a busy day of running around Melbourne. I wanted to wear something chic and minimal that would work for everything.

I’ll throw an oversized wool coat over the top in-between events and [leave] some heels in the back of my car in case I want to dress up a little more for the evening. If you haven’t already noticed, I love a simple fit, but for me, it’s all about the details. This black, ribbed, asymmetrical top paired with gold moments is doing a lot for me.
