TV presenter, actress and designer Francesca Hung takes us through her makeup bag

Expect beauty and bandaids.

YouTube was the almighty beauty guru for many people born in the late ’90s and early ’00s. We’d eagerly sit in front of the family desktop computer, eating up whatever haul video or makeup tutorial our favourite video creators served up to us.

One of my favourite video categories, for which my little fingers would fly towards the play button, was when these beauty lovers would let us peek into their makeup bags.

There’s something oddly intimate about this act. I get to see someone’s faithful foundation brand or what supplements they take (we have our eyes peeled for Swisse Beauty’s new Inside and Out beauty range). Because I’m nosy, I want to see everything. No holds barred. I want to see a foundation-stained makeup bag and a half-a-decade-old mascara tube.

It’s my belief that this is a quick, ice-breaking activity. One that turns people from strangers complimenting each others’ outfits in the bathroom to besties swapping deep secrets and dandruff tips.

Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity to take a deep dive into Francesca Hung’s makeup bag. The Sydney-based model, actress, TV presenter and designer is a true media mogul. She packs a busy schedule so I knew she’d pack a good makeup bag.

What’s your go-to makeup bag?

My go-to makeup bag is anything practical! After years of spilt beauty products, leaking bags or broken zips… my beauty bag has to be waterproof and durable! I don’t have a specific brand, but I tend to go for see-through beauty bags so I can save myself time fishing through my many products.

Take us through your products and why you love them.

I always carry beauty products that I think will give me the best glow and keep me looking fresh and hydrated from morning to night. I always have my Swisse Beauty Hyaluronic Acid two per cent Vitamin B5 Glow Booster Serum with me, as it works as an amazing makeup base and dewy highlighter. I always love to have a fresh and glowy pre-routine for any makeup look.

A good concealer is a must, and I love my Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. A cream or liquid blush is one of my favourite makeup must-haves. I tend to switch between my NudeStix All Over Dewy Blush in the colour Rusty Rogue or the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in the shade Hope.

I love to wear a soft brown lip liner to give my lips that beautiful full look and my go-to is the Mecca Max Pout Pencil in the shade Classy. No lip look is complete without some gloss though, and my favourite is something that doesn’t feel sticky on your lips but gives them a beautiful shine, so my favourite at the moment is the Kosas Wet Lip Oil in the colour Dip.

Finally, I always have on hand my Rae Morris Invisible Mattifier Powder. It takes away some shine without leaving the skin looking too dry!

Any unexpected products we can find in there?

There’s always one random thing or another popping up in my bag. A good companion is the Swisse Beauty Multivitamin Beauty Complex Powder. Any other products you always take to a shoot?

Bandaids and hair elastics. I feel like bandaids are self-explanatory… but walking around in heels or new shoes can sometimes get a little painful, so I always like to carry bandaids with me to protect my feet.

And hair elastics… well as many a hair artist would tell you, I have extremely thick hair, so hair elastics tend to snap or break when trying to tie my hair up. So I always bring my heavy-duty ones for backup. You live and you learn.

And what do you take on a night out?

I like to carry a little bag with me when I’m going out as I need my hands to eat, drink and dance! So my going-out beauty bits are always a lip liner and a lip gloss or lipstick.

My go-to liner is the Mecca Max Pout Pencil in the shade Classy or the Mac Lip Pencil in Spice. And my favourite lipstick for going out would be the Rose Inc Satin Lip Colour in the shade Poetic. It’s such a pretty coral colour, and I love to just gently blot it onto my lips for a seamless overall tint.

What about when travelling?
