Saving the planet, one reusable container at a time.

From Tupperware and dishwashing detergent to dining tables and bed frames, there’s always more we can do to reduce the consequences of our consumption.

While brands are increasingly pressured to lift their ‘sustainability game’ and take (often expensive) measures to reduce their environmental footprint, the onus falls on us to make this change worth it.

Want to discover how to make your home eco-friendly? Head to our Life vertical.

Ahead of this year’s Earth Day, which takes place on Saturday April 22, we’ve curated a list of local brands that will help you excel in the realm of environmentally conscious living.

Jordy and Julia Kay, a former winemaker and architect respectively, co-founded Great Wrap in 2019 on a mission to end single-use plastics and microplastics (a residual effect of biodegradable products) one compostable stretch wrap at a time.

Made from potato waste and a mix of other compostable biopolymers, the eco-friendly cling wrap breaks down in under 180 days once placed in your household compost bin, and leaves behind zero toxins.

Made by Fressko

Any good coffee aficionado will be familiar with the sleek and modern design of a Made by Fressko reusable mug. And while these colourful carriers are worth every cent, they aren’t the only product offered by the brand. From glass infusers to loose-leaf teas, the brand has come a long way since its inception in 2014.

The brand uses 100 per cent BPA-free materials, including bamboo which is sourced from the mountains of Ningbo, and is stringent about quality control so your reusable mug or bottle will last the distance.

If shopping for toilet paper doesn’t get you jumping out of bed, it will now. Who Gives A Crap is a breath of fresh air in the bathroom department (okay maybe not literally). The brand offers two types of toilet paper: one made from 100 per cent bamboo and another from 100 per cent recycled fibres.

With the horrors of both climate change and poverty in mind, Who Gives A Crap also donates 50 per cent of its profits to building toilets and advancing sanitation in developing countries.

Refillable and cruelty-free skincare brand Foile was created to “reimagine the way skincare is produced, consumed and experienced”. Fashion Journal’s Editorial Assistant Izzy Wight reviewed a selection of the brand’s Australian-made products last year, which you can read about here. Aside from prioritising clean beauty and challenging the beauty industry’s waste issue, Foile’s packaging and branding are seriously beautiful.

We love the reusable Angel Eye Jellies – simply apply your favourite eye product to your under eye area, pop the jellies over top, leave them in place for 10 minutes and then rinse, dry and put them back in their storage case. No more disposable eye gels around here!
