Australian sexologists share their favourite nipple toys

WORDS BY FASHION JOURNAL

“From gentle to very mean.”

When speaking about sex toys, we often focus on the more obvious choices like suction wands, air-pulse vibrators and clitoral stimulators. It’s easy to forget the nipples are a certified erogenous zone. For some, it’s possible to achieve orgasm without ever even touching the genitals. But even if you’re not the nipple-only orgasm type, nipple play can be a fun addition to foreplay.

So what are you waiting for? If you’re looking to introduce a little nipple action into your sex life, the easiest place to start is simply with the hands, trying different touches to see what you’re into (and if you don’t like it, that’s cool too!). If you’re looking to kick it up a notch, four of our favourite Australian sexologists share their favourite nipple toys below.

Laura’s favourite go-to nipple clamp is the iconic Posmo Orbs. You may have seen them pop up on your Instagram! These small and mighty magnetic balls work by clamping onto erect nipples and provide a STRONG pinching sensation. She explains, “The Orbs are a special one because they only truly come to life when you’re aroused. Just like if your partner slapped your ass while you were deep in a stressful task, the orbs tend to feel too pinchy when you aren’t horny. But get aroused, get close to orgasm, clip these bad boys on and you’ll see what all the fuss is about”. Extra bonus – they double up as a cute clothing accessory too.

Nipple play is so much fun. And trying nipple clamps for the first time is not as scary as it might sound, given all the adjustable options out there which can start very gently… no more than a gentle pinch. If you’re a beginner, start with a ‘tweezer’ style which is very easy to adjust.

I love nipple products that don’t just give incredible nipple sensation but also add an extra playful element. For example, these tweezer clamps are great for beginners as they are fully adjustable (from gentle to very mean!) and they have bells on them, which adds a really sexy element to the play. Imagine your partner putting them on you, adjusting them so they are just the right level, and telling you to lie still without moving an inch as they proceed to explore your body. Every time you move, the bells give you away!

Magnetic clamps are also fun, as they give the appearance of pierced nipples without the needles! Remember though, the magnetic clamps are non-adjustable, meaning they are not suitable for beginners. Because of the magnets, they only squeeze at one level. This is also a gentler option.

For all my babes with pierced nipples, the Lovehoney Rose Clitoral Suction Stimulator is a great entry into nipple play post-piercing. Not only do we love a multi-functional toy and a toy gorgeous enough to leave on the bedside table, but the air suction tech also sets it apart from classic nipple suckers, which create a vacuum seal and might unpleasantly pull or irritate the piercing. The suction tech gives you a delicious feeling, without the risk or the worry. It’s rechargeable, waterproof and all the other good things.

For those wanting to explore the sensory or pain realm post-piercing, CalExotic’s Adjustable Tassel Nipple Clamps are a go-to. Many folks can lose sensitivity with their piercings, so these clamps are a great way to bring it back and the gorgeous faux leather tassels can also amp up the sensory play.

Having adjustable clamps without connecting chains are ideal so that you can figure out what works for you and your piercing, adjust as you go and similarly, not worry about them accidentally yanking out your piercing during play. It goes without saying to make sure your piercing is healed first and that you’re placing them in the opposite direction of your piercing.

Quinn is a clitoral air vibrator that uses pulses of air pressure to stimulate the clitoris but it can also be used for nipple play, creating a gentle sucking, vibrating or air sensation around the nipple. Nipples are an erogenous zone and for many, they play an important role in arousal – some people can even climax from nipple stimulation alone. Try using a clitoral air vibrator on your nipple, choosing a setting that feels best for you and moving it in circular, up and down or side-to-side motion.
