No-chella.

Coachella has come and gone for another year, so we can return to our regularly programmed Instagram scrolling, minus the influx of influencer posts from the festival.

By now we know that social media is not always what it seems, and influencer Gabbie Hanna has taken lengths to prove this point. After posting photos of various outfits and coloured wigs on each day of the festival, Gabbie has revealed she actually faked her entire trip to Coachella.

In a rather elaborate scheme, Gabbie posted a series of images edited by @kellansworld. The photos make it look like she was staying in Palm Springs, showing her smiling on festival grounds, while really she was at a friend’s house. Now, the original captions have been edited reading, “OOPS i [sic] faked it all!” while promoting her YouTube video, showing how and why she did it.

Coachella has become a mecca for influencers; which Gabbie claims has many people going purely for the photo ops. In the video she explains her motivations, saying “What if I could get the Coachella Instagram picture, without going to Coachella.”

Ultimately, Gabbie wanted to show her followers the reality behind the phony photos, and the lifestyle of influencers. Reminding viewers at the end of the video, she says: “Just know that those things aren’t always as attainable as they seem.”
