WORDS BY EVIE DINKELMEYER

From those who know best.

Summer is creeping up on us, which means there’ll be many more afternoons spent traipsing home from the beach with damp locks and T-minus 20 minutes to get ready for drinks that night. It’s a golden time of year. However, if you’re not keen on heading out with the Olsen wet-hair look, you’re going to need a very reliable hairdryer to get you through the season.

We like nosy people. Don’t be shy, head to our Beauty section for more.

But not all hairdryers are created equal, and it’s always best to choose one that works for your haircut and texture. To find the answers, I’ve asked some of the best hairdressers around Australia for their hairdryer recommendations. Scroll on to read what they had to say.

Ella Wilkinson, Senior Stylist at Rubi Hair

My favourite is the Parlux 385 Power Light. It’s the O.G. blueprint of professional hair dryers, and it’s light and powerful.

Raff Marcellino, Style Director at Bob Hair Co

I’ve used a lot of different dryers over the years, but the Dyson Pro is my absolute fave. It’s really quiet and super lightweight, so you don’t get a sore arm. It dries the hair a lot quicker and smoother with less effort, and it’s a lot less damaging than other dryers on the market.

It also has an amazing diffuser attachment which helps give the best curly blowdry. You can alter the speed and heat and there’s a cool shot in the perfect position if you want to set the hair. It’s a bit of an investment but you will have it forever and you won’t look back.

Indi-Anna, Senior Stylist at Rubi Hair

My favourite is the Ghd Helios, because it’s powerful so it keeps me on time. It’s also non-abrasive and smooths the hair perfectly.

Nina Lee, Founder of Extra Silky

I highly recommend the Parlux 385 Power Light. It’s what I use every single day in the salon. It has really amazing power and helps me smooth out all hair types, even the frizziest hair. It’s great for home styling as it’s not too big and chunky. I believe they have something like 5,000 hours of drying time, so it’s an amazing investment at around $250. It’s also really good for curly-haired people to put a diffuser on the end and on a low speed to dry curls well.

Nikki Porter, Salon Owner at Rubi Hair

My favourite is the Kaleo, because it’s lightweight and has a great diffuser attachment. The company is Aussie-owned, too, which I love.

Dan Collins, freelance hairdresser

My favourite hair dryer is without a doubt the Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer. It feels so high-tech, it doesn’t overheat with hair, and their diffuser attachment for curly hair is unmatched! I also love the Featherjet Fusion Plus when I need something more heavy-duty for thick and/or textured hair that I want to be as smooth as possible.

Tess, Principal Stylist at Rubi Hair

My favourite hairdryer is the GHD Helios, because (most importantly) it comes in pink. It always shows up, never fails to deliver and dries the hair quickly and smoothly.

Emily Wilson, Stylist at Grace Gold Hair

My favourite is the Parlux 385 Power Light. It’s super lightweight but really powerful, … and just so reliable, they last for years!
