Meet the Australian model encouraging a mind-body connection through Pilates

PHOTOGRAPHER AND STYLIST – KAITLYN BOSNJAK
HAIR AND MAKEUP – GHADA NOU
MODEL – BIANCA MELAS AT PRECISION MANAGEMENT

“Learn to be kinder to yourself.”

No one has just one job these days, and creatives certainly don’t. We’re a generation of multi-hyphenates and freelancers, just trying to make our way in the gig economy. Photographer Kaitlyn Bosnjak captures emerging models who are doing just that, breaking into the fashion industry and learning more about the world. While she had them, we thought we’d ask a couple of questions about the people behind the faces, including what they would tell our audience if given the chance to say just one thing.

Hey Bianca! So how old are you?

I am 25 years young!

Where do you live?

I live in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

Other than modelling, what do you do with your time?

I am a Pilates instructor. Teaching reformer and mat Pilates. I have also just launched my website, Balanced by Bianca Melas, which offers a subscription-based membership including live Pilates classes via Zoom, and a library of pre-recorded studio classes and live recordings. I am also a full-time student, completing my final year in a Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy).

Tell us about your heritage.

I come from a Greek/Italian heritage. I feel so grateful to have been bought up with my European background, forever devouring incredible homemade Italian dishes.

What do you do to switch off?

I love attending Pilates classes. It allows me to switch off and go within, as it focuses on the mind-body connection and the use of breath to connect with movement. I also love getting back to nature, whether it’s a day spent in the sunshine on the beach or a coastal walk appreciating our beautiful surroundings.

What are you most passionate about?

I am truly passionate about supporting others and their holistic wellbeing. In particular, providing the tools for people to feel supported, nourished and inspired. To be kinder to themselves, to help find their own inner peace and confidence within themselves. I believe that finding our own inner peace we are kinder to not only ourselves but influence those around us.

What are you doing to fix it?

Through Balanced, I’ll be providing a space for my clients to not only gain physical strength through Pilates, but to increase their mind-body connection. Through naturopathy and nutrition, clients are able to gain knowledge on ways to heal themselves. Overall, my hopes are to create a balanced approach where mind, body and soul are supported.

What do you think Australia needs right now?

To have greater compassion and empathy among our community.

You can say just one thing to our community. Go!

Learn to be kinder to yourself, love yourself and be more confident in who you are.
