Five of the Best: Lip balms

Diamonds aren’t a girl’s best friend. Lip balm is. Always and forever.

What can we say about lip balms? They’re our everything. The REAL girl’s best friend. The number one item we’d bring to a desert island. The most underappreciated product in the beauty industry. Lip balm is God.

We rounded up our top five favourite lip balms because nothing’s better than talking about lip goo.

Lucas’ Papaw Ointment

This is an Australian cult classic. Made from fermented papaws, this magic ointment is one of those do-it-all products, and also works for any burns, rashes, minor cuts, chaffing, and eczema. This lives in pretty much everyone’s handbag and we don’t need to tell you why this rocks our socks. Be wary on hot days though. The ointment can separate and get a bit oily.

NUXE Rêve de Miele

This lil’ tub is from Parisian brand, NUXE, and is a cult product in the UK and Europe. This goo has a thick texture, and is made from honey, sunflower, musk rose, almond oils, shea butter, and grapefruit essence. The best thing about this product is that it leaves a matte finish to your lips. No shiny, slippy-slidey feel here. It’s ultra nourishing sans grease.

Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1

This one is our pick if your lips get seriously affected by the elements. We combat cold weather and the wind with Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1. It has an oilier consistency, has SPF 4, and comes in a variety of different scents, including vanilla, cranberry, pear, mango, coconut, mint and the good ol’ original

Blistex Intensive Repair

We’ve heard the rumours about Blistex drying out your lips and from personal experience, this is just not the case. Blistex Intensive Repair is high up on our list, and our go-to when our lips are seriously chapped. We mean flaky, gross territory. It has SPF15, a thin texture, and leaves a tingly finish. We’re not huge fans of the other sticks and ointments they have in their range, but Intensive Repair is the shiz.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant

Not actually a lip balm, but this product is a makeup artist cult favourite. It’s known to have a bit of a funky smell, but all the makeup artists use this on models for shows and shoots. It’s another multipurpose product that relieves dry, chapped, and cracked skin in general. The Eight Hour Cream range is extensive and has products specifically for lips, but obviously, the original tops.
