UNIQLO releases tees to celebrate new KAWS exhibition

Street art becomes streetwear.

The NGV announced earlier this week that contemporary American artist KAWS will have a solo exhibition at the Victorian gallery in September. 

KAWS: Companionship in The Age of Loneliness will collect sculptures and pop-culture paintings from the artist’s oeuvre from the last 25 years. The exhibition will include his largest bronze sculpture to date, a seven-metre figure commissioned by the gallery for the show.

UNIQLO is the major partner of the exhibition and has launched a celebratory collaboration with the artist. 

Titled, KAWS: SUMMER, the range will feature 21 T-shirts and tote bags across the Japanese label’s child and adult lines. It will feature graphics from the artist’s early street graffiti work as well as images of his signature COMPANION sculptures.

UNIQLO T-shirt (UT) brings fashion and art together in collaborations with artists from around the world.

The range will be available at UNIQLO stores, online, and at the NGV design store from 20 September.
