Melbourne Fashion Week announces Adut Akech as 2019 ambassador

Melbourne goes international.

Melbourne Fashion Week has announced international supermodel Adut Akech as the ambassador for this year’s event.

The New York-based supermodel first walked for Melbourne Fashion Week in 2016 and has since gone on to meteoric success, walking international runways for Chanel, Dior, Prada, Burberry, and Alexander McQueen.

“Adut is one of the world’s most sought-after young models and we’re incredibly lucky to have her in Melbourne,” Lord Mayor Sally Capp said yesterday.

This year, the runway at Melbourne’s iconic Town Hall will return as the showcase hub alongside a number of runways in new locations across the city including The Eureka Tower, Chinatown, and a poolside runway at Melbourne City Baths.

MFW continues its commitment to promoting sustainability within the fashion industry, featuring six slow-fashion designers in the Town Hall Runway and a sustainability panel at The Fashion Forum. In 2018, the event itself was certified carbon neutral and has included a number of initiatives this year such as banning plastic straws, an option to carbon offset tickets, and gift bags made from recycled materials.

Melbourne Fashion Week takes place from Wednesday 28th August to Thursday 5th September.
